Fraternities and Sororities around the country take part in charitable philanthropies

Members of the Sigma Nu fraternity and Alpha Chi Omega sorority collect canned goods for a food drive.
Everybody knows the common fraternity stereotypes… lots of drinking, lots of partying, and lots of tools. While we can’t disagree with any of these and fraternity brothers probably wouldn’t either, we should all agree that members of fraternities and sororities alike give a lot back to their communities and charities.
Throughout the country, Greek chapters raise thousands of dollars every year for causes of their choice. At the University of Florida alone, one of the larger Greek systems in the country, there are 56 fraternities and 31 sororities, all of whom do their part in spreading social good.
Just like anything else these groups do, their philanthropies are a ton of fun as well!!! We’ve picked a few of our favorite events for charity that Fraternities and Sororities do and have listed them below. Tell us which ones are your favorite and let us know if you know of a few events that we should add!
Deepher Dude – Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority’s philanthropy event

Two fraternity members struggle to eat an extra large pizza by themselves in Delta Phi Epsilon’s Deepher Dude to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The Deepher Dude philanthropy is what moolta is all about… it’s a HUGE eating contest to benefit charity. For this event, five members of every fraternity work as a team to eat their way through a series of food challenges including an extra large pizza, a gallon lemonade chug, hot dogs, pancakes (with a ton of syrup), ice cream sundays and several more types of food and drink. Every round, the slowest teams are eliminated until there is one overall winner. Sorority members watch from the crowd and cheer their favorite boys on
Mr. UF Pageant – Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority’s philanthropy event
We’ve all heard of the Ms. America and Ms. Universe beauty pageants, we’ve even heard all about Honey Boo Boo and the other Toddlers in Tiaras, but AOPi at the University of Florida changes the game with their beauty pageant for guys! The contest gives every fraternity the chance to put their most talented and handsome members in the spotlight in front of every sorority on campus. The show provides tons of laughs, donations and talents all benefitting the National Arthritis Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Fraternities raise money all week in creative ways leading up to this event, they even go as far as walking a wheelbarrow around campus to collect change as seen below.

Members of the Theta Chi Fraternity push a wheelbarrow around the University of Florida campus to collect change for AOPi’s Mr. UF Pageant
Kickin’ it for the Kids – Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity’s philanthropy event

The Delta Gamma Sorority takes part in Zeta Beta Tau’s Kickin’ It For The Kids kickball tournament benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network.
Whether you wanted to or not, you’ve most likely played kickball on the blacktops in your elementary school physical education class. The Zeta Beta Tau fraternity revives this gym class classic with their Kickin’ It For The Kids Kickball philanthropy. Sororities enter several kickball teams a piece and battle it out in a single elimination tournament. Those who aren’t as athletically talented use their creative skills to decorate a kickball that represents their sorority, another competition in the Kickin’ It For The Kids tournament.
I love the wheelbarrow idea! I wish I would have thought of that when I was in college. Did you participate in any specific fundraiser?
It is so very cool. I am so far removed from this subject that I am glad to find this. I would not think of this subject and many others if not for the random post aspect on blogs
Those are awesome!
Awesomeness!
So nice.

Ok so this is absolutely a great idea.. You guys are great and keep up the good work!
Terrific to know some college students take the time to think of others.
I love this! Most of the time you only hear the negative things about the Greek system – but I know they raise money for very worthy charities on a yearly basis – thanks for telling some of those stories!
I miss those college days. Those were the best days of my life. Keep doing the good things with lots of parties.
Very commendable effort!
Yes! Thank you for showing the positive side of the Greek life. As a sorority sister I volunteered a great deal.
So cool!
